Site Preparation
Castles need a big flat area — aim for at least a 50×50 outline, which fits walls + 4 corner towers + a central keep without feeling endless. Three sites: hilltop (natural defense + view, most dramatic), peninsula (water on 3 sides, saves two walls), plains (easiest, beginner-friendly). Mark the 50×50 with stone bricks first, then plan the interior. The top-view below is a standard layout: rectangular curtain wall, 4 corner towers, main gate, 15×15 central keep.
Wall Construction
Stone brick body, 6–8 tall, 2+ thick. Battlements on top (alternate blocks), iron bars inside to stop falls. Never one block type — here's the weathered mix:
| Block | Role | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Stone brick | Wall body / towers | ~50% |
| Mossy stone brick | Aged, patchy face | ~25% |
| Cracked stone brick | Worn, broken look | ~25% |
| Cobblestone | Hidden fill | as needed |
| Iron bars | Inner rail / portcullis | little |
| Dark oak slab | Keep peak / gateframe | little |
Towers & Gatehouse
Corner towers, round or square, 5–7 diameter, 2–3 blocks taller than the wall (top floor = archer nest). Gate 3×3 or 4×4 with an iron-bar portcullis and carved-stone frame; a small guard tower on each side. Dig a 3-deep dry moat in front, cactus/spikes at the bottom as 'caltrops'.
Keep & Interior
The keep is the core: 15×15 base, 3–4 floors. Ground: great hall (long table + fireplace + armor stand), kitchen (4 furnaces + smoker). Second: lord's bedroom (double bed + enchanting + chests). Third: library (bookshelves + desk + lectern). Basement: dungeon (iron door + bars + campfire) and rows of chests. Dark oak slab triangular peak on top.
