LAN Multiplayer (Easiest)

Java: same WiFi, host opens 'Open to LAN', others see it in Multiplayer. Bedrock: auto-appears in friends list. All players must be on same network.

Tip: Type /publish in chat to quickly open to LAN in Java.

Self-Hosted Java Server

1. Download server.jar. 2. Create folder, place jar, run once for eula.txt, change false to true. 3. Default port 25565, set up port forwarding. 4. Run again. Friends connect via your-IP:25565. Memory: java -Xmx4G -Xms2G -jar server.jar nogui.

Warning: Most home ISPs use private IP (CGNAT). Contact ISP for public IP, or use frp for NAT traversal.

Third-Party Hosting

Aternos (free, mods) and Minehut (free). Register -> create server -> choose version -> start -> share IP. Free cons: queue to start, auto-shutdown on idle.

Realms Official Servers

Mojang-hosted. Java: ~$7.99/month (2p) or $9.99 (10p). Bedrock: cross-platform. Pros: stable, auto-backups. Cons: no mods, pricey, 10-player cap.

Common Issues

Cannot connect? Check: firewall allowing Java, port 25565 forwarded, public vs private IP, Bedrock needs Microsoft login.

Tip: Test port: visit canyouseeme.org, enter 25565.
