Turtle Basics

Turtles spawn on warm beaches (not snowy). Aquatic creatures active on both land and water. Turtles remember their birth beach — adults return there to lay eggs. Turtles eat seagrass (seagrass triggers breeding).

Breeding & Hatching

Breeding: 1) Find two turtles. 2) Feed seagrass (harvested underwater) to breed. 3) Pregnant turtle returns to birth beach, digs and lays 1-4 eggs in sand. 4) Eggs hatch in 3-4 game days (faster at night). 5) Baby turtles are extremely vulnerable (zombies/drowned attack). Protect eggs with fences — eggs only on sand.

Tip: Turtle eggs get crushed by zombies! Fence the egg area or place blocks above. Hatched babies drop scutes when grown.

Scutes & Turtle Shell Helmet

Baby turtles drop 1 scute when grown. 5 scutes = turtle shell helmet. Effects: +2 armor, +10 seconds water breathing. Best enchants: Respiration III + Unbreaking III + Mending. Turtle shell also brews the 'Turtle Master' potion (slow falling + resistance).

Tip: Turtle shell + Respiration III = 2+ minutes underwater. Pair with a conduit for near-unlimited underwater activity.
