Three Stages of Storage Pain
Storage needs evolve in three stages: ① early 'not enough pockets' — 36 slots can't hold a loot run; ② mid-game 'chest walls' — 50 chests and no idea where anything is; ③ late-game 'automated logistics' — production lines need auto-intake. Matching mod classes: personal backpacks, sorted storage, network storage. Rule: solve carry first, then findability, then automation.
Personal Backpacks: Two Picks
①Traveler's Backpack: the classic — 40+ color variants tied to material tiers, a built-in water bladder (carry and drink liquids) and bedroll, cheap to craft (leather-tier), the survival standard. ②Sophisticated Backpacks: the advanced option — upgrade plugins add magnet pickup, ammo auto-refill, compartment sorting, huge capacity, and a portable-crafting plugin that turns it into a walking workbench. Pick one: light needs → former, heavy exploration → latter.
Sorted Storage: A Home for Everything
Mid-game picks: ①Storage Drawers — one item per drawer with front-mounted item bars showing counts, the best ore/crop storage; ②Iron Chests — copper/iron/gold/diamond tiers, the best value 'more slots' plan; ③Sophisticated Storage — drawers + iron chests combined: material sets capacity, plugins set function. Layout method: four zones (ores/food/materials/misc), one storage mod per zone, retrieval efficiency doubled.
Network Storage: AE2 & the Endgame
Late game is digital: AE2's ME system digitizes all items — search and retrieve from a terminal, autocraft processors make anything on demand. Lighter alternative: Refined Storage (RS) — similar function, gentler learning curve for players who just want in/out. The ultimate stack: backpack (personal) + drawers (base cache) + AE2/RS (digital hub), with Create logistics for auto-supply — warehouse automation, fully realized.
