JEI vs REI

JEI: Forge preferred, classic choice. REI: Fabric preferred, modern UI, faster. Same functionality — pick by loader. Forge=JEI, Fabric=REI.

Core Functions

Open inventory (E) -> item list -> hover -> R=recipe, U=uses. Recursive navigation. Click plus (+) to auto-fill crafting grid.

Warning: Click plus (+) on a recipe to auto-fill the crafting grid. One-click crafting!

Search & Filter

Supports Chinese search, @modname filter, #tag search, &color search. Dramatically speeds finding items among hundreds.

Advanced Tips & Hotkeys

Bookmark: press A to pin items to the left bookmarks bar for quick recipe access. Cheat mode (requires cheats enabled): click items to spawn, click a recipe to fill the grid. Item highlight: searched items glow while others dim. Shift-click to move whole stacks fast.

Warning: Press A to bookmark and T to show the recipe tree — the two most useful hidden hotkeys in JEI/REI.

Install & Compatibility

JEI pairs with Forge; REI pairs with Fabric Loader + Fabric API. Both are read-only lookup tools — they don't modify saves or add difficulty, and work in singleplayer and on most servers. They integrate well with big mods like Tinkers and Create, whose custom recipes auto-appear in JEI/REI.

Warning: Never run JEI and REI together (duplicate lists or crashes). Forge = JEI, Fabric = REI — pick one.
