Nether Transport Principle
The Nether and the Overworld share the same X/Z location at a 1:8 ratio: walk 1 block in the Nether and you've covered 8 in the Overworld. A 100-block Nether corridor equals 800 Overworld blocks — using the Nether as your transit backbone compresses every trip to one eighth. Pair that with an ice boat highway (blue ice just under the bedrock ceiling) and you glide at 70+ m/s, the equivalent of 560 m/s Overworld — the fastest travel in survival. The cross-section below shows the tunnel and the 8:1 distance ratio at a glance.
Dig at Y=122–125 so the bedrock ceiling seals the top for you, then wall in the sides completely. Combining the 8:1 ratio with 70 m/s ice travel is what turns cross-continent trips into a few seconds.
Warning: Ghast fireballs shatter ice! Tunnels must be fully enclosed — even one exposed ice block, hit by a fireball, caves in and strands your boat. Stone/obsidian walls and ceiling, sealed tight.
Warning: Why dig at Y=122–125 (just under the bedrock roof)? That height maps to the Overworld's highest point, and bedrock already seals the top — you only need side walls, zero extra ceiling cost.
Ice Highway Build
Pick your ice first: blue is fastest but pricey, packed ice is the性价比 king, regular ice is only for temp patches. Speed vs acquisition:
Ice Type
Speed
Acquisition
Cost
Use
Blue ice
Fastest (~70+ m/s)
Craft from ice + pumpkin / chorus fruit
High
Main trunk
Packed ice
Fast (~40 m/s)
Easy from ice spikes / frozen ocean
Medium
Branch lines
Regular ice
Slower (~20 m/s)
Freeze water source
Low
Temp / gaps
Warning: Build steps: dig a 1×2 (tall) tunnel at Y=122–125 → ice floor → wall lanterns every 20–30 blocks (no open flame, it melts ice) → stair transitions at corners → nether portals at both ends. Slow down before bends or you'll derail into the wall.
Piglin Trading Hub
A fully auto piglin trading hub chains 'gold ingot → dropper → piglin → drops → water collection': gold flows through a hopper chain into a dropper that periodically fires at a piglin; the piglin picks it up and drops quartz / soul sand / obsidian / XP bottles, all swept by floor water into a hopper chain and chests. Thousands of nether quartz and XP bottles per hour — a free lapis source for your enchanting table.
