Building a Nether Portal
Nether portal: obsidian frame (min 4x5). Needs 10 obsidian (diamond/netherite pickaxe, 9.4s/block). Mold method: build a dirt frame, pour lava+water to generate obsidian in place (no mining needed!). Activate with flint and steel (iron+flint) by right-clicking inside the frame.
Major Nether Mob Threats
Zombie Piglin: neutral unless attacked — then ALL piglins within 32 blocks swarm. Blaze: ranged fireballs in nether fortresses, drops blaze rods. Ghast: giant white flying mob, explosive fireballs — shoot arrows or deflect with sword timing. Magma Cube: nether slime variant, common in basalt deltas. Piglin: attacks unless you wear gold armor! Always wear at least one gold piece.
Key Nether Resource Gathering
Nether Quartz (most common ore, any pickaxe, good XP). Nether Gold Ore (drops gold nuggets, Fortune III increases — but piglins attack if they see you mine it!). Ancient Debris (netherite source, Y=15 best. Bed mining: place beds every 8-10 blocks at Y=15, right-click to explode — massive area clearing exposes debris). Soul Sand (soul sand valleys, used for Wither summoning, soul campfires, bubble column elevators).
Important Nether Structures
Nether Fortress (red brick, blaze and wither skeleton spawns. Farm blazes for blaze rods, wither skeletons for skulls). Bastion Remnant (piglin stronghold, 4 types: housing, treasure room, bridges, hoglin stables. Treasure rooms have gold blocks and enchanted gold gear, but piglin brutes are deadly). Warped Forest (blue-green alien biome, endermen spawn heavily. Relatively safe — no piglins, great for ender pearl farming). Basalt Delta (gray barren wasteland, magma cubes everywhere, lava pools dense — terrible for base building).
