How Generators Work

Flowing lava touching flowing water makes cobblestone; lava flow touching a water source block makes stone (not cobblestone). Use this to farm infinite stone. Core structure: adjacent lava and water flows, contact point = generation point. Control the contact: lava + still water = stone, lava + flowing water = cobblestone.

Cobblestone generator: where water meets lava Cobble Generator: It Is All About the Contact Point Same two liquids, three different results depending on which one moves. A · Correct: lava still, water flows into it lava source cobble water water flows toward lava ✓ Cobblestone — mine it, it regenerates forever B · Wrong: water pours down onto lava water lava ✗ Obsidian — a lava source hit by water turns solid You lose the lava source and need a diamond pickaxe. obsidian C · Lava flowing into water = stone (not cobble) lava stone water lava source flowing into water gives stone — smelt it for smooth stone Great for auto stone farms with a piston breaker.
A cobblestone generator only works when a still lava source is touched by flowing water — the lava stays a source block and the contact point keeps producing cobble forever. If water reaches the lava source itself you get obsidian and lose the source, and if the lava is the one flowing you get regular stone instead.

Basic Generator (4 Blocks)

Simplest design: dig a 4-block trench, water source at one end (flowing toward the other), lava source above the far end. Flows meet in the middle, contact point continuously generates cobblestone. Stand nearby and mine repeatedly — infinite cobblestone. Advanced: widen the trench for 2-3 simultaneous lines.

Fully Automatic Generator

Automation means machine-mining: 1) Pistons periodically push generated cobblestone away from the spawn point. 2) Or TNT blasts it (drops auto-collected). Classic auto design: lava+water generates cobblestone → observer detects generation → triggers piston → pushes block into collection area. TNT duplicators can provide 'infinite TNT', but require advanced redstone.

Tip: A cobble generator is a vital early-game resource station — infinite cobblestone for building, furnaces, tools, and smooth stone decor.

Generator Uses

Cobblestone is extremely versatile: 1) Building material (castles, walls). 2) Furnace crafting (8 cobble). 3) Stone tools. 4) Smelt to stone → smooth stone (decor). 5) Redstone comparators. A full-auto generator + furnace array = infinite stone building material — the foundation of mid-game industrialization.
