Iron Farming Mechanics
Iron golems spawn when villagers are 'scared' by zombies. Core conditions (Java): 1) ≥3 villagers each with a bed. 2) Villagers slept within 20 min. 3) Villagers can see the zombie (line of sight). 4) Golem count below cap (1 per 10 villagers). When met, ~1 golem per 35 seconds, dropping 3-5 iron + 0-2 poppies.
Iron farms run on villager panic, not on beds. Three villagers that have each claimed a bed and a workstation will try to summon a golem the moment they can see a zombie within 8 blocks. Build a platform with clearance above them, kill the golem the instant it spawns, and the cycle repeats — roughly 400 iron ingots an hour from a single village unit.
Standard Build
Classic design: 1) 5x5 platform 20 blocks up, 3 villagers + 3 beds. 2) Zombie chamber (name tag), piston+water for intermittent line of sight. 3) 7x7 spawn platform above/below, slabs on non-spawn areas. 4) Golems flushed by water into kill zone (lava+sign or fall). 5) Hoppers collect iron. Single unit: ~400-450 iron/hour.
Tip: Multi-unit is key for output: 3 villagers + 1 zombie per unit, 16+ blocks apart to avoid interference. 4 units satisfy most survival needs.
Troubleshooting
Not spawning iron? Check: villagers slept in 20 min (beds accessible); golem cap reached (clear excess golems in village); zombie in scare range; villagers can see zombie; ground slab coverage (prevent outside spawns).
