Raid Mechanics 101
Raid farms are among the highest-yield farms in 1.22. Core loop: enter a village with Bad Omen I-V to trigger a raid (higher levels mean more waves, up to 7). Raids are led by raid captains (banner-carrying pillagers), and killing a captain drops Bad Omen again — creating a self-sustaining loop that lets the farm run 'endless raids'.
Siting & Prerequisites
Three siting rules: 1) Find a pillager outpost and isolate it from villages (nearby villages interfere within the same chunks); 2) house 1-2 villagers in a 'safe room' at the outpost platform center (fully enclosed, roofed) — villagers are the trigger; 3) make sure no other beds or workstations sit within 64 blocks of your villagers. Bring: bow + arrows (for evokers), a totem of undying, and stacks of torches.
Build Steps
Step 1: Build a 20x20 work platform around the outpost, safe room in the center. Step 2: Stand near the villagers with Bad Omen to trigger the raid. Step 3: funnel raiders into a 2-wide channel at the platform edge, ending in a hopper-minecart + lava-gate kill chamber (witches are lava-immune — give them a separate drop shaft). Step 4: Sort loot below the kill chamber — emeralds, books, iron gear, and arrows all flow into filtered chests.
Output & Maintenance
One level-V raid is 7 waves, ~8 minutes solo, yielding roughly: 40-70 emeralds, 3-6 enchanted books (Mending possible!), 8-12 iron gear pieces, 1-3 totems, plus saddles and banners. Sell books through a trading hall and one raid is worth 500+ emeralds total. Maintenance: check villager health weekly and clear wandering traders that stray onto the platform.
