The Project: 41 km, 4 Million Blocks

Led by BuildTheEarth's China division since March 2021, the Great Wall project sits on 1:1 terrain data. The main wall runs from Shanhaiguan's Old Dragon's Head to Jiayuguan — 41 in-game kilometers and 4 million+ blocks, with 827 towers, 41 passes with beacon systems, and a fully furnished interior in the 'First Pass Under Heaven' gatehouse.

Five Years in Three Phases

The build advanced in three terrain-driven phases:

The map is permanently open on the BuildTheEarth server — Java 1.22+ clients connect directly, with 12 teleport anchors along the route. The team also launched a 'Mini-Section' community challenge: build a 500m sample segment following official guides, and the best works get merged into the main map. Warm up with our Chinese Courtyard and Castle guides.

Warning: For mega-project sightseeing, push your sim distance to 32+ and pair it with Distant Horizons — you'll see the full wall snaking along the ridgeline in one view.
