Why Diamond Seeds Matter

In normal survival, your first diamonds take 30–60 minutes. Diamond seeds cut that out: caves/ravines near spawn expose Y=-58 veins, or big cave systems sit right below spawn. Diamond gear in 10 minutes turns night one into 'diamond night'.

Warning: Since 1.18 diamonds peak at Y=-58, and deep caves expose more surface — scan cave walls first.

Safe Mining Procedure

① stone tools + shield first; ② bring torches, food and a water bucket; ③ walk to the target coords and build a stairway down after scanning the cave; ④ clear dark areas around any diamond vein before mining — creepers love ambushes; ⑤ mine with an iron pick. Seed #1 -513070077's open ravine floor is the friendliest for practice.

Warning: Ravine floors often pool lava — scout lava from the rim before descending and keep a water bucket ready.

What to Craft First

Don't craft a sword with your first diamond. Priority: ① diamond pickaxe (obsidian → Nether); ② enchanting table (2 diamonds + 4 obsidian + 1 book, 15 bookshelves for level 30); ③ Fortune III diamond pickaxe — then double back and mass-mine; ④ diamond armor. Getting ①② within 5 diamonds is the optimal line for both survival and speedruns.

Warning: Before Fortune III, mine as usual but plan ahead — ancient debris in the Nether benefits from the same loot-optimization mindset.
