The Only Obsidian Pick
A diamond pickaxe is the only tool that can mine obsidian, making it a hard requirement for lighting a Nether portal. At 1561 durability and speed 8 it also handles Netherite-related blocks.
Long-Term Advice
With Unbreaking III and Mending, a diamond pickaxe lasts tens of thousands of blocks — effectively permanent. Enchant tools before armour, since tools wear out far faster.
