Crafting Recipe

3 cobblestone (top row) + 2 sticks (center middle+bottom) = 1 stone pickaxe. This is your key to the Iron Age — you can now mine iron ore!

Unlocking Iron

A stone pickaxe mines coal, iron, lapis and redstone — the threshold into the iron age. With 131 durability and mining speed 4 (versus 2 for wood), both efficiency and lifespan double.

Mining Prep

Stone still cannot mine gold, diamond or emerald (that needs iron). Carry at least two stone pickaxes underground so you are not stranded, and note diamond coordinates to return with an iron pickaxe.
