Crafting Recipe

3 planks (top row) + 2 sticks (center column middle+bottom) = 1 wooden pickaxe. The very first tool you should make. Mine 3 cobblestone to upgrade to a stone pickaxe.

What It Can Mine

A wooden pickaxe mines only stone-type blocks (cobblestone, stone, andesite) and coal ore — never iron, gold, diamond or emerald. With 59 durability it breaks after roughly 59 blocks and is a pure starter tool.

Correct Opening

Standard start: chop wood, craft a bench and wooden pickaxe, mine 3 cobblestone, immediately craft a stone pickaxe, then discard the wooden one. Trying to mine iron with a wooden pickaxe wastes durability and yields nothing — the classic beginner mistake.
